One of the most popular days to run a race is probably Thansgiving in the form of a Turkey Trot.  Nick and I spent Thanksgiving day in historic Williamsburg.  I ran the Blue Talon Bistro 5k which was fantastic.  I highly recommend this one.  It was well organized.  They even had two divisions, one for runners and one made up of walkers.  The number bibs had bar codes so you could use an app such as red laser on you cell to get immediate results.  That was fun to check in the end.  My friend Bernie & her hubby also ran.  The course is fun & scenic taking athletes through the quaint little town and through parts of the William & Mary campus.   It was fairly flat at first with a few little hills throughout to keep things interesting.

It was about 45 degrees which was perfect for running.  We got in a nice warm up.

My fellow athlete coworker, Jeff was giving me motivation the day before the race.  He was telling me to “get out” with the leaders & start out fast.  He came up with a crazy time goal that he just threw out there and I decided a turkey trot is the best opportunity to just take risks. I went in excited.  I ran HARD from the start and although I could not hold the pace I went out with nor did I go under 20:00 I did have a breakthrough day.  The 2nd place woman really pushed me & we made eachother work in the final mile.   She had that last little kick in her as my stomache started to churn in the last few minutes from pushing hard.  I crossed the line with a new PR… A huge PR in fact and was 3rd overall out of 971 female runners.

I honestly am still floored by the body’s ability to respond to the training process.  I’m totally addicted to the progress and I loved taking risks on this day.   My new 5k PR nearly a month of training with coach Dave is now 20:33.

The prizes were really nice cutboards.

I would recommend this 5k to anyone.
